Notched Izod specimen impact: PA11 and PA12 (ASTM D256-10)

What powder sintering offers

Izod values describe notched specimens, not gripper collision resistance. Selection depends on cross-section, mounting, forces and temperature. Trial scope and acceptance criteria are agreed with the integrator.

What this process cannot do here

No fine print

  • We do not make safety-system components. Interlocked guards and limit switches remain with an approved supplier.
  • We will not replace linear guides, bearings, or shafts. There, steel works, and sintered material at best encases it.
  • PA12 specimen HDT is 87 °C at 1.8 MPa. It does not establish continuous gripper service temperature; state temperature at the part, load and exposure duration.
  • A vacuum channel requires powder-removal access, fitting selection and leak assessment. A metal insert does not guarantee a leak-tight housing.

How your project moves forward

  1. Part and mountModel or drawing, datums and fits. Photos help establish the measurement scope.
  2. Mass and cycle conditionsState forces, motion and temperature. The calculator estimates printed mass, excluding inserts and hardware.
  3. Workstation trialTrial-part, inspection and adjustment scope are agreed in the quote with the integrator.
  4. Confirmed setConfirm revisions and quantities after the trial. Build layout and timing are checked before ordering.

What the quotation covers

Gripper-finger mass affects robot payload and printing price. The calculator shows the full unit price including the minimum and file preparation. SLS quantity discounts start at 100 parts.

What to prepare for a quote

  • Part and interface

Model or drawing of the held part and arm, units and revision. State mounting spacing, datums, contact surfaces, clearances and required tolerances.

  • Forces and cycle

Gripping forces, load direction and moment arm, motion and cycle duration. State temperature at the part, exposure and complete assembly mass including inserts and hardware.

  • Trial and set

Workstation-trial criteria, quantities and date. For channels, state vacuum and powder-removal access. Inspection, adjustment and series scope are agreed with the integrator.

Send what you have. We will clarify the remaining details when reviewing your enquiry.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get the mass for the capacity balance?

The calculator estimates printed mass from model volume and an assumed density. It excludes inserts, fittings, cables and the held part. The integrator checks the complete assembly; actual mass is confirmed by measurement.

Will such a gripper hold a part weighing three kilograms?

Part mass alone is insufficient. We need geometry, gripping forces, load direction, moment arm and cycle conditions. Cross-section and possible inserts are assessed for the job; load capacity is confirmed by a trial agreed with the integrator.

What gives it an advantage over milled aluminum?

SLS can make sockets and channels without moulds or printed supports. Compare the complete assembly: geometry, mass, stiffness, inserts and machining. Equal mass does not guarantee equal price or suitability.

Do you manufacture equipment for cobots?

We assess fingers, adapters and covers from arm documentation and the application. State the interface, motion envelope and cycle conditions. The integrator assesses the complete application; we do not make safety-system components.

The gripped part will change in six months. What then?

Send the new part revision and change description. We check the socket, forces, mounting and motion envelope; other geometry may also need adjustment. Changed-model preparation and another trial are quoted before work.

Will the printed vacuum channel be leak-tight?

A powder datasheet does not establish leak-tightness. Identify channel routing, fittings, vacuum and trial criteria. We assess powder-removal access and finishing; leak-check scope is agreed before printing.
