Formlabs Form Studio 1: a new desktop resin printer

Form Studio 1 brings MSLA printing, 35 µm pixels and Alpha resins to a new price point. We explain the launch and how it compares with Form 4L.

Formlabs unveiled Form Studio 1 on 14 October 2026: a desktop resin printer intended to make its ecosystem more accessible. Here we look at the announcement and what it means for choosing a printing process. This is a product overview based on manufacturer information, rather than a hands-on review.

What is Form Studio 1?

Form Studio 1 uses masked stereolithography (MSLA) with a Low Force Display (LFD) engine. It exposes a whole resin layer through a display, using 28 LEDs and a lens array. Formlabs specifies a 35 µm pixel size. Pixel size describes the imaging system; it is not a guaranteed dimensional tolerance for every finished part.

Build volume and the comparison with Form 4L

Form Studio 1 has a 200 × 125 × 235 mm build volume. Form 4L offers 353 × 196 × 350 mm. These dimensions matter when a housing must remain in one piece or several parts need to share a platform. Supports and orientation also occupy space, so a model should be checked in the print-preparation software.

Alpha resins and the complete workflow

The launch includes six Alpha resins: Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model and Fast. The range covers visual models, transparent parts and rapid prototypes. Material selection should start with the part’s purpose: appearance, loads, temperature and fit. A detailed miniature and a loaded bracket need different validation.

The separate Form Studio Wash+Cure combines washing and curing in one compact unit. Print time alone therefore does not describe the complete workflow: allow for removal, washing, drying and the finishing steps specified for the material.

Price, shipping and the conditions behind the claims

At launch, Formlabs announced pricing from US$699 and global shipping beginning on 16 November 2026. These are launch figures, rather than a Polish retail offer; check current regional pricing, taxes and the selected package. As of 26 October, the announced shipping date is still ahead.

Formlabs states that UL GREENGUARD Gold certification applies to Form Studio 1 used with Alpha Resins and the VOC Extractor. That is a defined combination, not a blanket claim about every resin or configuration. Follow the manufacturer’s handling and post-processing instructions.

Our perspective at fuse3d

For us, this launch raises a useful question: when does owning a resin printer make sense? Consider the whole process, consumables, workspace and the time needed to prepare and finish parts. For an occasional prototype, a service can help establish the right material and finish before committing to equipment.

At fuse3d, our resin-printing service uses Form 4L with Form Wash L and Form Cure L. Form Studio 1 is the subject of this news article; we are not announcing it as part of our equipment.
